The mission of the Utilities Department is to assure present and future generations a sufficient supply of high quality drinking water. We strive to provide customers with the highest quality water and wastewater services possible, including reclaimed water, while maintaining a competitive rate structure. The Department ensures that all regulatory agency requirements associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the utility system are met or exceeded. It is also paramount that all operations and practices are in line with energy and water conservation methods.
The Utilities Department utilizes in-house forces for the majority of its’ operation consisting of highly trained and state licensed water and wastewater operators who maintain and operate the Town’s two water plants, one wastewater plant, and one water reclamation facility. Additionally, the Department requires its field technicians to obtain licenses and/or certifications in water distribution and wastewater collection systems, which enhances their knowledge of repair and maintenance of the water and sewer pipe lines and 59 wastewater pump stations throughout the Town’s 10,000+ residential and commercial accounts.
Major projects requiring resources that are not available within the Department are outsourced to private contractors through a competitive bidding process. The Department strives to provide the highest quality services to our customers with a minimal interruption in service when emergencies occur. This is accomplished by both in-house and private contractors at times working in unison to restore service expeditiously.
The Town opened its new state of the art Water Treatment and Water Reclamation Facility in November 2013. This facility allows for treated wastewater to be used for irrigation on college campuses and golf courses. With the addition of these facilities, the Town now has a capacity of 8.35 MGD in wastewater and 10 MGD a day in water.
Several western areas have been provided with potable water through our special assessment program thereby ensuring that residents are receiving safe drinking water. This program is ongoing and efforts are continually underway to provide all Davie residents with potable water when requested.
Our water and wastewater plants are staffed by State licensed operators 24 hours a day. This staffing arrangement allows residents to report emergency situations during evenings and weekends and receive timely assistance should the problem warrant such action.
Our commitment is to provide the public with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water as well as providing proper treatment and disposal of wastewater. We are committed to excellence.
